Video stissing mountain high schoolThe Poughkeepsie Journal reports that the Stissing Mountain High School is in lock.
The newpaper quotes one of the parents, Bob Lamont, as saying that the gunman seems to be the mother of one of two students who were in the building when the accident occurred.
Update at 10:29 ET: The AP said the gunman surrendered.
AP quotes an unidentified official in state government, as saying the man was a former student. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, said the gunman surrendered approximately 10 ET.
Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver said the killer is a man in his 40s. He says he was fired.
The school is about 90 miles north of New York City.
